Home Communications Media Coverage Address for Launch of Refugee and Settlement Program, Dandenong
As I said earlier the local communities have told us that they would like us to work with them around issues to do with the young people in the region, accommodation and assistance in seeking health outcomes. We believe that the provision of targeted services is a way to ensure that people are enabled to make their fullest contribution to their new society. It’s not just about keeping people out of trouble; it is about their full flourishing and human dignity. Through helping them to establish themselves successfully in Australia we will all reap the benefits of their contribution to the community. Our entry into this area has been greatly aided by the support of the local Catholic parishes of the Dandenong deanery. I am grateful to the Commonwealth government for its support of our vision and I am pleased to acknowledge here today Mr Adam Warzel representing Mr John Williams the Victorian State Director of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Thanks to the team who have helped put this together, our local branch manager Ms Kris Kealy who allowed us to use this space for the launch – to Philip, Director of Community Services, Terefe and his team Claire, Michael and Mary here. And thanks again to all of you for your presence with us today. |
