ImageAttention all married couples, whether you’ve been married for 2, 20 or 60+ years! Centacare Catholic Family Services’ Marriage and Relationship Education Unit offers a range of programs – any of which can help you deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of your marriage. Choose one or more that suit you!

1. R (Relationship) Day

Relax, Renew, Recall, Romance, Revisit, Revitalise, Rejuvenate and Rejoice…

This one day group program is based on the ‘Seven Principles for a Sound Marital House’ developed by researcher and practitioner John Gottman. Throughout the day, you will be invited to explore ideas and behaviours which will help build connection, friendship and intimacy in your relationship.

Upcoming program dates: 18 April 2010, 17 October 2010

2. Difference to Eternity

Committed and loving relationships create safe havens for couples to embrace differences. ‘Difference to Eternity’ explores the personalities in our marriage relationships. This one day group program challenges couples, in a fun way, to accept and appreciate the growth opportunities our differences offer.

Upcoming program dates: 17 July 2010

3. Myers-Briggs for Married Couples

Differences are a given in marriage. They contribute to exciting and challenging times. However, they can also lead to disharmony. Understanding, accepting and appreciating each other’s differences leads to happier, more satisfying and enjoyable relationships. By exploring your personality profiles through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator in a fun way, each couple can gain more insight into their spouse and their couple relationship. This will be done with each person completing the MBTI inventory then working with a MBTI administrator. This is an individual couple program, not a group program.

4. REFOCCUS

REFOCCUS is a program for married couples who are pleased with their marriage and would like to spend more time exploring and enriching their understanding of it. It is usually undertaken over five one hour sessions, facilitated by an accredited FOCCUS facilitator. You, as a couple, work individually with a facilitator.

5. What is Your Love Language?

Do you sometimes know you are loved but don’t feel loved? You and your spouse may be speaking two different love languages. Would you like to gain a greater understanding of how to show your love to your partner and feel loved by them?

Based on Gary Chapman’s Five Love Languages, this one evening program will help you gain insight into your own love language and assist you in learning about your partner’s unique love language.

6. Money Habitudes

This one evening program invites couples to think and talk about their habits and attitudes regarding money. Couples will be able to readily engage in productive, insightful conversations which impact their financial/life situations.

Using Money Habitudes Cards, couples will quickly discover that their money habits and attitudes can support or sabotage financial goals. By getting to the underlying habits and attitudes that influence actions, couples will be able to plan more realistic steps through a deeper understanding of each other.

7. Bringing Your Baby Home

This program is for couples who are expecting their first baby or whose baby is less than 12 months old.

The experience of becoming parents is life changing, having a huge effect on the relationship between partners. This program will help couples equip themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to constructively manage the many relationship changes brought about by the birth of a child. This is a one day group program spent with other couples experiencing the challenges and excitement of becoming parents. It’s lots of fun!

“The greatest gift you can give your child is a strong relationship between the two of you.â€
– Dr John Gottman
